Debra J. Thomas Mines

After graduation from OWU, I began my teaching career at the elementary school level and later continued teaching in middle school, high school, and graduate school at Cleveland State University.

I married Herman C. Mines in 1974, graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 1977, gave birth to two wonderful children, traveled some and looking forward to more travel days, enjoyed seeing my two grandchildren grow up, and wrote a few children's books with two publications so far.

Currently, I am a Reading Specialist at the DeKalb International Student Center in Atlanta, GA and planning to officially retire in May 2023 :).

This is a funny memory:

When I visited OWU in February of 1969 prior to my first day of school in August 1969, I learned that female students were required to wear dresses to lunch on Sundays. So-o-o-o I wore one of my lovely dresses to my first Sunday lunch only to discover that the rules had changed over the summer. I vaguely remember standing awkwardly in the lunch line at Stuy Hall as the only student with a dress on for my first Sunday lunch at OWU. It wasn't funny at that time; however, now it's quite hilarious picturing myself at that moment in time :).
