Stephen Wartella III, 63, of Fogelsville passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at his home.
Steve was born to Dr. Stephen and the late Francie Culp Wartella at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. His early years were spent with his family in the U.S. Air Force. This included stays at Johnson Air Base (Tokyo) and Wright Patterson (Dayton, Ohio) before settling in Wyoming Valley in 1962.
Steve was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary, Class of 1969, and Ohio Wesleyan, Class of 1973, where he majored in political science.
After college, Steve lived in Philadelphia, where he developed a wonderful career as a cabinet and custom fine furniture maker. Steve continued this craft after permanently moving to Southeastern Pennsylvania, where he met and married his love, Rosanne. During the summer months Steve enjoyed his time at Bear Lake. As an environmentalist, he was an avid outdoorsman and expert fisherman. He was interested in community affairs and served on multiple boards and councils.
He was an awesome uncle, amazing brother, kind son, expert craftsman, patient teacher, and fast and loyal friend.
Steve is survived by Rosanne; his father, Dr. Stephen Wartella; his sister and brother-in-law, Beth Ann and Larry; brother and sister-in-law, Bradley and Robin; brother and sister-in-law, John and Mariana; nieces, Alisa Rae, Leigh, Elizabeth and Katie; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and godchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 29 from Simon S. Russin Funeral Home, 136 Maffett St., Plains Township, with Requiem services at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 93 Zerby Ave., Edwardsville, with the Rev. George Volkovinsky, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be private. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 28. A Parastas service will be held at 7 p.m. Published by Citizens Voice on Nov. 22, 2014.
