Nancy Jo Bockbrader (McCallie)

Nancy Jo Bockbrader McCallie, wife of David P. McCallie, Jr., died Monday, October 14, 1996, at her home in Stillwell, KS, after a long illness caused by melanoma. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 17, at Community Christian Church of Kansas City, 4601 Main Street, Kansas City, MO, with The Reverend Theodore Loder, Senior Minister of United Methodist Church of Germantown, PA, officiating. A luncheon reception will follow the service at The Simpson House, 4509 Walnut Street, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Blue Valley Educational Foundation, “In Memory of Nancy B. McCallie,” and mailed to 15020 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS, 66223-0901.

She was born in Bowling Green, OH, daughter of Donald and Frances Long Bockbrader, and graduated from Bowling Green High School with many honors. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, OH, with a BA in Fine Arts. She was President of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, member of Mortar Board, Kappa Delta Pi Education Honorary Society. After graduation, she taught art at the William Penn Charter School and Abington Friends School in Philadelphia. After marriage and moving to Boston, her interest in art and education led to a staff position at the Massachusetts Fine Arts Museum with special interests in the promotion and organization of a program for Boston children called “Mummies and Magic.” Her talents in painting, writing, weaving, and quilting were used in enrichment activities at the Copper Beech School in Boston and at the Atrium School in Watertown, MA. Three years ago, Doctor McCallie moved his family to the Kansas City area where he is associated with the Cerner Corporation. Mrs. McCallie participated in the Stillwell Elementary School activities and library and was on the docent staff of the Nelson Atkins Museum of Fine Arts, as well as an active participant in the Berry Hill Farm Estate Neighbors Association. Mrs. McCallie is survived by her husband David, Jr.; sons Andrew Jarnagin and Cameron David; and daughter, Anna Maddin Frances. Her parents are Donald and Frances Bockbrader; brother, “K” Nathan Bockbrader, wife Lucia and niece Mariah, of Bowling Green OH; and sister, Nicola B. Kale, husband William, and nieces Katelin and Keisie, of Portage, OH. Her family in Chattanooga includes David and Maddin McCallie, Allen L. and Alice McCallie, and Jack B., Frances and nieces Louise and Emma McCallie.
