Ohio Wesleyan University Receives $269,000 Estate Gift
DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University has received a $269,000 contribution from estate of Lois K. DiLorenzo of Dedham, Mass. The bequest will support student scholarships awarded through the university’s Mark DiLorenzo Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The fund was established nearly 40 years ago by Lois and Albert DiLorenzo to honor their son, Mark, a 1973 Ohio Wesleyan alumnus killed in an accident shortly after his graduation. While at Ohio Wesleyan, Mark DiLorenzo majored in English. Friends recall that he and then-professor Ron Rollins collaborated to host poetry sessions for the campus community.
“It is humbling to be remembered by Lois and Albert DiLorenzo in their estate and to know that Ohio Wesleyan remained in their hearts and minds throughout their lifetimes,” said President Rock Jones, Ph.D. “The DiLorenzos continued to visit Delaware well into the 1990s. Colleagues who knew them and Mark remember the family with great fondness. We are honored that they chose to support our educational mission and our students with this generous gift.”
Lois DiLorenzo died in November 2010 and Albert DiLorenzo in 1995. Following the couple’s wishes, the DiLorenzo Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a male Ohio Wesleyan student with a strong academic record.
