Davis "Chip" Burroughs III

Davis “Chip” Burroughs III, October 16, 1950 - August 09, 2014, 63, of Asbury Park, NJ, was surrounded by his family when he passed away at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, NJ. Chip is survived by his life partner Betsy Old; his daughter Elizabeth B. Doerr; son Davis C. Burroughs IV; sister Bunny Krueger and her son Jamie Jordan; brother Peter Burroughs and his son Jeffrey Burroughs and daughter Lauren Burroughs; son-in-law Michael Doerr; stepson Forrest R. Old III and his fiancé Lauren Sewell; and his beloved cat, Leroy. Chip's parents, Davis C. Burroughs Jr., and Jean K. Weidlein preceded him in death.

In addition to his culinary degree, Chip earned a BA from Ohio Wesleyan University in Technical Theatre and a BA from Housatonic College in Computer Science. He was a Certified Microsoft Engineer.

Born in Pittsburgh PA, Chip was unusually gifted and multi-talented. Known for his spirited wit, ebullience, generosity, kindness and expansive creativity, Chip was a true Renaissance man. Accomplished in diverse fields, his passion and renown as an Executive Chef. He trained at the Culinary Institute of America, and owned a successful catering company in Fairfield, CT for 20+ years. In 2011, Chip and Betsy founded The Asbury Ocean Beach Inn, an award-winning bed and breakfast in Asbury Park, NJ. Chip was a member of the Rotary Club of Asbury Park and donated his services to numerous charitable events. 

Chip's legacy includes memories of him delivering culinary masterpieces to his friends when testing new recipes. A legendary and colorful personality, Chip was a devoted and beloved father, husband and friend who will remain in hearts forever.
